‘Angelus Novus’ is a permanent exhibition in an underground car park. The exhibition includes the video installation ‘Angelus Novus’, seven large-format prints from the ‘Headlights’ series and a sound-performance on the opening night by Alban Schelbert.
Video Installation:
A modern electric car is the protagonist of the nine-minute film ‘Angelus Novus’. The film is shot with an electric car’s seven built-in cameras. These cameras provide a look at the world from the car’s own perspective. The car, seemingly driverless and controlled by artificial intelligence, develops a presence of its own. As the video progresses, The car’s presence is gradually revealed as that of a being with its own language and dreams.
Sound Design: Alban Schelbert
Headlights (portals):
The 'Headlights (portal)' series shows cars’ headlights and their design as well as landscapes that are reflected on their surfaces. The headlights become portals that provide a view of highly distorted places. The work is not only in dialogue with the cars in the room but also with specific places outside the underground car park.

Performance:
At the opening of the exhibition, the figure Angelus Novus and the electric car from the video installation met in a performance. ‘Angelus Novus’, portrayed by Alban Schelbert, walks backwards through the garage, driven by an electric car. Within the performance the figure of ‘Angelus Novus’ plays a harp. The live played sounds are reproduced and gradually distorted by the electric car’s sound system. The car also has an influence on the sound level, creating a bond between the archaic instrument and the futuristic car.
